Charlotte and her friend are in her roof garden.  It is above a block of flats.

Charlotte is growing something.

Your roof garden has grown well, Charlotte.

It is part of my balcony.  I hoped you’d like it. I grow plants that do not dry out.

Herbs?

And I grow flowers.  I asked advice from a local grower.

Cacti are useful.  Many people grow them indoors too.

I have tubs but they do need watering so that the plants grow well..

Tub gardens are a growing fashion.

Anyway, I thought of giving a party up here.

Who’s invited?

People in these flats.  We’ll grow to know each other.

Including Hairy Harry?

He’s growing a beard as well as a moustache.  Wow!

You never know what might grow out of a party.

We might all grow to like each other.

Including Barefoot Bertha?

She’s grown out of walking barefoot.  She thinks that she has been childish.  She wears shoes now.

Didn’t like cold wet weather?

When we had all that rain she said that she didn’t want to grow webbed feet.  She might grow feet like a duck.

She’s nice really.  I got talking to her yesterday.  She could grow on you.  You could grow to like her.

What about party food?
What about drink?
Let’s say,
“No alcohol”. We don’t want to offend anybody.  Don’t want any trouble either.

What about cutlery?
Grow up!  Nobody uses knives or forks any more at parties.

I’ll bring some anyway.

Everyone has finger food.  It’s a growing fashion.

Seats?

I’ll ask the greengrocer for some boxes.  He gets them free from the vegetable growers.

If it grows too hot or comes on to rain?
I have a canopy. It’s a big old umbrella.  I love to sit here in all weathers.  I’ve grown to love it up here.

This place can sure grow on you.

I’m hoping to grow some climbing plants next year.

Vines? Great!  Now about this party.  What about party invitations?

I’m growing to love my computer.  I use my laptop up here.  Let’s print them.  “Flat warming party by Charlotte.  Bring and share.  Finger food.  No alcohol.”  Then a date and time.  And the number of my flat, of course.

You are growing into a real hostess.  Let me deliver  them to the flats.

Thanks.
