Jay is standing
by his stall at the market.
Hi Jay!
So this is your own fruit and vegetable stall.
You are smart! It’s
great to see you. How is everyone at the
office?
Are you pleased that you left the office?
Yes, I was going
bananas, going crazy, working indoors all day.
Our friends at the office are making fruity jokes about you.
Their
usual fruity, cheeky jokes, of
course.
But do you like getting up so early for the market?
You don’t miss
the office?
I
felt that the work was fruitless,
the same work every day, nothing fresh, nothing new. I felt that nothing would grow from that
work.
Do you have
problems here as a fruiterer, as a
person selling fruit?
The
tiny fruit flies are a problem, and
the cold dark mornings. At the office I
got up later and worked in the warm.
In
Soft
fruit has been fruiting well this year. The
black and red currant bushes are fine.
I see that you
sell dried fruit too. I’d like some currants and raisins.
Are you going to
make a fruitcake?
Yes, a rich one
with nuts on top.
Some of our friends think that I am crazy to give up office work. Why did they say that I’m a fruit cake?
Perhaps the
silly people thought that you are mixed up like the fruit in my cake.
Why did some say I’m as nutty as a fruitcake?
Another word
for a head is a nut.
And you are putting nuts on your cake!
Some said that I am a fruit
and nut case! They think that my head is
crazy. They think I should keep my
office job and be warm and comfortable.
I’ll give
them pieces of my fruitcake when I
tell them that your ideas are bearing fruit. Congratulations! I am glad your plans are
coming into fruition.
Tell them I miss their fruity
cheeky jokes. Here’s a bag of fruit
for them. Say hi to them.
Thanks
Jay. See you again.
